The last My Liner Notes post of 2010 is short and sweet — emphasis on sweet.

Two of my favourite singles this year were Big Boi’s “Shine Blockaz” and The Black Keys’ “Everlasting Light”, ranking #14 and #15, respectively.

So it came as a welcome surprise when mashup artist Wick-it the Instigator  combined the two songs for his “Everlasting Shine Blockaz” mix.

And while you’re at it, check out the rest of The Brothers of Chico Dusty, his mashup mix of Big Boi’s Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty and The Black Keys’ Brothers.

Enjoy, and I will see you all in 2011.

Virginia shoegazers Wild Nothing will release their new record, Gemini, next month on Captured Tracks. In leading up to the release date, the band has released a music video (sort of) for the summery first single, “Chinatown,” which takes scenes from the 1969 short film Clown.

The video is reminiscent of another video mashup from last May by a dude by the name of J Tyler Helms. The mashup paid homage to both Albert Lamorisse’s legendary film, Le Ballon rouge (that’s The Red Balloon for you uncultured swines out there) and Grizzly Bear’s “Two Weeks”.

The innocence and nostalgic feel of “Two Weeks” provides the perfect soundtrack for the scenes of a young boy playing with his magical red balloon throughout the streets of Paris.

For those of you who haven’t seen the clip, I couldn’t provide the link here because it was ordered to be taken down by Iles Films Montsouris, the studio that owns the film’s copyright.

But if you really want to see it, just rent a copy of Le Ballon rouge and watch it on mute with “Two Weeks” playing continuously on repeat. Maybe it’s not quite as mind-blowing as a Dark Side of the Moon/Wizard of Oz mashup, or even a Kid A/Nosferato sync, but it sure beats watching another re-run of Everybody Loves Raymond.
