Foals - “Spanish Sahara” Live In Session [BBC Radio 6]
Producer and multi-instrumentalist Dave Sitek is not only the brains (arguably) behind TV on the Radio, but is largely responsible for crafting the soundscapes of past efforts from Liars, Foals, RAAAAAAAANDY’s (Aziz Ansari) yet-to-be-released mixtape, and, ugh, Scarlett Johansson’s 2008 solo debut.
(I really feel the urge to judge his tastes here, but I’m sure there must have been a good reason why he decided to take on this project. I suspect he was paid in tatties.)
Now with his new side project, which is confusingly titled Maximum Balloon, Sitek is getting his swerve on with a more dancey sound.
And he’s in damn good company, with guest appearances by TVOTR bandmates Tunde Adebimpe and Kip Malone, YYY’s Karen O, Holly Miranda, Little Dragon’s Yukimi Nagano and Theopilus London.
You can hear the first single (illegally, of course), “Tiger”, right now.
Maximum Balloon is out August 24th on DGC/Interscope Records.
The video for “Spanish Sahara”, the lead single off Foals’ sophomore album, Total Life Forever, made its online debut March 2nd, which in blog years is roughly equal to 270 years ago.
It would be like if we were at Urban Outfitters and I asked, “did you hear Handel’s new joint, Messiah? That shit’s the bomb!” (Ironically enough, referring to anything as “the bomb” is as dated as Handel’s Messiah.)
In any case, maybe a handful of you haven’t see this video, which gives me enough of a reason to post this haunting yet beautiful epic.
Total Life Forever is out May 11th on Sub Pop.
