Just as the name suggests, My Liner Notes takes from the nostalgic art form of an LP’s liner notes, which can be found within the inner sleeves and inserts of dusty records and cassette tapes. The personal essays found on this blog contain anecdotal and factual material which celebrate the visceral and emotional connection we all share with music. These analytical, humorous, and often poignant opinion-editorials are always delivered with the kind of brutal honesty you can only expect from a music nerd.
Atlanta’s Deerhunter has come along way since their amateur-sounding mess of a debut, Turn It Up Faggot.
Their hauntingly gorgeous Microcastle/Weird Era Cont. was one of my favourite records of 2008 and is sure to be considered a bonafied classic a decade from now.
With the September 28th release of their fourth record, Halcyon Digest, Deerhunter will prove itself as one of the most innovative bands in music today.
I’ve been listening to a leaked version (thanks to a friend who shall remain nameless) of the album, non-stop, for the past four days, and I can safely say that this will be in my top 5 albums of the year.
And I should note that such a list gets harder and harder to maintain towards the end of the year, what with all the incredible albums coming out in the fourth quarter.
Last week the band released the music video for the infectious lead single, “Helicopter”, which features a very tight shot of frontman Bradford Cox with superimposed images of, like, stuff.
That was a pretty vague description so maybe you should just watch it to see for yourself.
