Philly-based afro-punk band Elevator Fight has recently been getting a lot of buzz, thanks to their ferociously energetic sets at SXSW and The Roots’ Picnic Fest.
Sounding halfway between Santigold and Karen O, Zoe Kravitz (daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet) is the kind of frontwoman who you can’t help but notice.
To quote Garth in Wayne’s World, “she makes me feel kinda funny, like when we used to climb the rope in gym class.”
The band formed in late 2008 and have since then been playing a steady number of gigs in Philly and New York City, including a recent show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg where Kravitz resides. (I meant in Williamsburg, not that she actually lives in a bar.)
In this clip taken from an April 2009 show at Philly’s Silk City, Kravitz and the guys show off their softer side with the ballad, “Paloma”.
Elevator Fight has yet to put out an album or even a single, for that matter, but hopefully we’ll see something later this year or early 2011.
In the meantime, you can see Kravitz in the upcoming It’s Kind of a Funny Story, which opens October 8th in the US and Canada.
