NEW STROKES SINGLE! →
What happens when you haven’t put out a record in five long years and you announce that you’re making your new single available for free on your website at a specific time?
The seemingly reinforced walls of the Interweb come crumbling down. The Strokes official website has been inaccessible for the last 20 minutes as eager fans have been flooding the site for the free download.
But...

Iron & Wine Perform New Album in its Entirety
Last night Iron & Wine performed an intimate, acoustic show at New York City’s The Greene Space which is broadcasting on demand on NPR’s website now.
The band played their new album, Kiss Each Other Clean, in its entirety, well before its January 25th release date.
And trust me: once you watch the video stream or listen to the audio you won’t be able to wait for the...

The last My Liner Notes post of 2010 is short and sweet — emphasis on sweet.
Two of my favourite singles this year were Big Boi’s “Shine Blockaz” and The Black Keys’ “Everlasting Light”, ranking #14 and #15, respectively.
So it came as a welcome surprise when mashup artist Wick-it the Instigator combined the two songs for his “Everlasting Shine...

It’s no surprise that Sufjan’s favourite musical genre of music is Christmas music.
A few years back he released a box set of five volumes packed full of original and traditional Christmas music.
Then as each Christmas would approach, subsequent volumes began popping up on the Interweb. However, Volume 6 was never previously available, let alone heard. Until now.
The good folks at...

Interview: Akiko Stehrenberger
They say you should never judge a book by its cover. Of course, this cliché doesn’t really apply to the work of LA-based art director/illustrator Akiko Stehrenberger, who has created a plethora of exciting, iconic images for some of the best films and bands/artists of the past decade. She has worked on film posters for A Serious Man, Away We Go, 500 Days of Summer, The Squid and the Whale, Lust,...

Mark Ronson and the Business International have released the video for “The Bike Song”, which features The View’s Kyle Falconer and Spank Rock.
The video sees the local community of bikes pull together to help out a fellow bike in need when Falconer’s wheels are stolen, a la Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure.
And not since Queen’s “Bicycle Race” has there...

Back in December when Beach House’s third album Teen Dream leaked, I vowed it would be my favourite record of 2010. This was probably a bold statement at the time, but I stood by it. And now that we’re nearly 3/4’s through 2010, I can confidently say that it is still my top album this year. Sure, you can argue all you want about how recent efforts by Arcade Fire, The National,...

Stream Jenny and Johnny's I'm Having Fun Now →
Like 95% of male (and female, for that matter) music nerds out there, I have had a crush on Jenny Lewis ever since the first time I saw her perform in 2006 during her Rabbit Fur Coat tour. The attraction is a no-brainer, really. She’s cute, has impeccable style, and has the singing chops to back it all up. Oh, and she was in The Wizard, which, let’s face it, is an awesome filmography...
